Methods of Dog Training

Once you choose to train your puppy yourself you will need to choose which training style that you will use.  There are many various methods to select from with many dog training courses available.  Secrets to Dog Training is a well-known example. There is clicker training, rewards based training, paper training, crate training, and many others. The following are two of the most well loved methods used in training.

Clicker training

Clicker training is a rewards based training system . Rewards based training is when you reward your dog for a desired behavior . This is in contrast to negative training in which you punish a puppy for an undesired behavior .

Clicker training is a training technique involving the use of a device named a clicker. It is typically used in dog obedience training. It goes like this . You give your dog a command . When your puppy does what you seek you click and then follow with praise and a treat.

The clicking action lets the dog know that you are pleased with his behavior . As you continue to train, the puppy will obey the command you give and perform the action that you seek expecting a reward in return. Over time the dog will become accustomed to following your command and you will be able to lessen the reward with a pat or praise even without the clicker .

Clicker training is an effective method of training your puppy to perform any kind of behavior that you seek . What makes it effective is that you are able to click immediately after the desired response is given. This cues the  dog that it has done what you desire and he will be ready for his reward.

Crate Training

Crate training is a well loved technique for housebreaking a puppy . Dogs are den animals so they naturally delight in being in a confined space. I know this is contrary to us humans natural tendency , since we do not like closed in spaces. But, puppies like it.

The key that makes crate training effective is that dogs like to have their space clean. So instead of pottying in the crate the dog will hold it until you open the crate to go.

In order to make this training effective you must make sure to place the dog in the crate and release him on a regular schedule. This way their body gets adjusted to the potty times.  Be sure to give him food and water on a consistent schedule as well.

Eventually the dog will be on a regular schedule to know when it will potty . Be consistent in where you take the puppy outside to use the . This lets the dog know what is an acceptable place to go.

Potty training your puppy using crate training can also be useful in another way. During the process the puppy will get used to being in the crate. This will be useful since now you can place him in the crate when you have guests over or when you are traveling.

Clicker training and crate training are 2 effective training methods for training your dog. Clicker training is beneficial to get a desired behavior and crate training can help you get your dog potty trained. Use these methods and you should be closer to having a well trained dog.
